My product of the month has to be the Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation
(Bamboo Beige). In my opinion it is far better than the Tinted Moisturiser (Oil Free) also from Laura Mercier, which made
my skin feel incredibly greasy to the touch and shiny on my forehead and nose
(I have Combination/Oily skin). The foundation is a little pricey at £33, but unlike
most foundations, the 35ml foundation has lasted me a good few months – after daily
use. I apply the foundation sparingly on top of the Laura Mercier Primer
Radiance in my standard ‘five splodges’: nose, both cheeks, chin and forehead,
however I haven’t noticed a significant difference when not using the primer.
Quick note (stating the obvious, I know): when applying the foundation, or any foundation for that matter, bare in mind that your foundation should match your natural skin tone and not be too cakey, otherwise you will look a bit like this…
Although I have been very pleased with the foundation, sadly it does not create the ‘complexion perfection’ in my case. At the moment my skin is covered in blemishes around my cheek and mouth area, meaning there is a lot of redness and dry peeling skin. Although the foundation takes some of the redness away, it does not hide it completely, therefore I use my Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage (concealer compact) on the red areas. I have tried applying this creamy concealer to the dry areas of my skin, but the concealer does not sit very well, if anything accentuating the problem areas. In the concealers defense, it is only meant to “conceal discolorations, imperfections and redness” so I can forgive it on that basis. In these situations, I tend to use the more liquid-like Touche Éclat (YSL), which normally does the trick and covers the drier blemishes and spots.
All in all I think it is fair to say that miracles are required to work with my rebellious skin at the moment. When my skin is fairly normal and blemishes are at bay, the combination of the two is brilliant! I love the foundation in particular because of the translucent, smooth and natural finish it gives and the concealer compact compliments the product well – a brilliant gift combo if you are looking to really treat someone… or yourself! But before I write any more make-up reviews, I need to get my ‘face canvas’ back in form to do these products justice. To carry out such a mission, I have bought the ‘Malin and Goetz Vitamin E Moisturiser’ (£36) and ordered the ‘Clark’s Botanicals ‘Skin Clearing Face and Body Wash’ (£37) and Nars ‘Pore Refining Primer’ (£25) – I promise I don’t normally purchase such expensive products… desperate times, desperate measure and all that!
